Well, changes have occurred at IKEA since I last visited their stores.
In my previous blog I said that they used metric construction sizes nearing ½”. It appears they are now using 16mm or roughly 5/8” material. I did not see ANY wood products. The choices were Thermofoil or thin laminates that were made to appear like maple wood and some exotic woods.
I found no doors thicker than the 16mm.
In looking at their media centers, they do use thicker vertical center panels which are a little over 1” thick. This greater thickness allows for taller vertical openings and to have the doors close onto a panel edge.
